How to reach Rifugio Locatelli: trail info

We start from the Val Fiscalina parking area, which is paid but also easily accessible by bus. From here, we just follow the sign to Rifugio Locatelli. The first stretch is along a flat forest road that takes about 30–40 minutes to reach Rifugio Fondovalle (1,454 m). This is the official starting point of the hike.

After the mountain hute, we come to a fork. We follow trail no. 102, which goes up gradually through alpine meadows and forests. From this point the hike becomes steeper, but at the same time opens up to wide, breathtaking views.

The path winds through wilder landscapes, scree slopes, and occasional flatter sections. Along the way, we cross a small stream, the perfect spot for a short break. We continue along trail no. 102, which soon tackles a series of rocky steps.

After about 3 hours, we reach a flatter section where the Tre Cime di Lavaredo finally come into view, right in front of us. With one last push, we arrive at Rifugio Locatelli (2,405 m), which remains hidden until the very end.

Here, the reward is nothing short of spectacular: the Tre Cime di Lavaredo rising majestically in the foreground, the Laghi dei Piani just below, and Monte Paterno towering opposite. It’s one of the most photographed panoramas in the Dolomites.

Hikes like this stay with you forever: once you’ve seen the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, you won’t forget them. Remember to plan your hike carefully. Always check the weather forecast before setting out, and respect both nature and the people around you.
