Map layers: slopes and snow

To make your hikes even safer and more informed, we’ve introduced two new map layers: Slopes and Snow.

These tools help you better assess the terrain, plan ahead, and make more informed decisions when moving in the mountains.

Activating these layers in Mountain Maps is ideal if:

  • you’re planning a winter or spring hike and want to understand where snow accumulations may be present;
  • you want to know the actual slope of the terrain to avoid steep sections or choose those best suited to your skill level;
  • you want a more complete picture of route safety, especially in exposed areas or those prone to avalanches.

The slopes layer

The Slopes layer shows you the gradient of the terrain through simple, intuitive color shading. It’s a valuable tool for anyone who wants to plan more accurately, reduce unexpected situations, and choose routes that match their abilities.

The snow layer

This layer shows the expected snow depth on the ground. It’s especially useful in winter, in transitional seasons, or whenever you’re planning routes above certain elevations.

This feature is part of the Premium plan.

How to activate the layers

Open the app, tap the Layers icon below the compass, and select the layer you want to enable.
