Mountain Maps is much more than just a map: it is your ideal travelling companion in the mountains. This app not only provides you with detailed and customised trekking routes, but also helps you plan every hike, even offline.

Here’s what you can do with Mountain Maps:

  1. Search for ideas for your next trek
  2. Plan your route in detail
  3. Live navigation and maps, also in 3D
  4. Download offline maps
  5. Import or export .gpx tracks

1. Look for ideas for your next hike

1.1 Ask your questions to MIA, your AI mountain guide

“Hey MIA, I’d like a scenic trail of up to 10 km nearby”.

MIA answers your questions about hiking, huts, points of interest, or mountain huts in real time, both during the planning phase and while you are on the trail.

You can use MIA in the app by clicking the middle button in the bottom bar.

Once the chat is open, you can ask her anything about the mountains, or start from the suggestion questions at the bottom of the screen.

1.2 Find new trails from Trails

Another way to find ideas for new treks is the Trails tab.

You only need to indicate the area where you want to make the trek, and the desired duration in hours or km. You can also add two further parameters:

  • Round trip or two way?
  • Do you want the route to pass by a lake, a summit or a mountain hut?

Click on “Generate with MIA” and the app will show you different trekking options close to your chosen starting point, respecting all the preferences indicated.

2. Plan your itinerary in detail

We know how important it is to have accurate information before setting off on a hike. With Mountain Maps you can plan your trail quickly and easily by clicking on “Plan” in the bottom bar.

  • Choose your activity filters: first, you can select between walking and skiing, which makes the app also a navigator for ski slopes. Then decide whether to include via ferrata routes.
  • Enter trail details: select the starting point, arrival point, and add any intermediate points to customise the route.
  • Click on Plan and view route details: once the route has been generated, you can click on “Details” to view travel time, kilometres, altitude difference and other useful information.
  • Start navigation: when you’re ready, press “Navigate” to follow the route with precise directions in real time.

Your trek is ready, but it doesn’t end there.

  • You can share it with your friends: easily export the track or share it.
  • Upload your photos: during or after your hike, you can upload pictures of the viewpoints and share them with other hikers.
  • Export the track: if you want to save or share your route on another device, export it in .gpx format.

3. Consult detailed mountain maps

Consult precise mountain maps, also in 3D or satellite mode, and study the terrain before your hike. Discover slopes, trails and points of interest at a glance.

In addition, you can consult contour lines to better understand elevation changes, and view CAI trails to plan your route safely.

If you are a skiing enthusiast, you will also find the ski slopes layer, with detailed information on tracks and lifts.

4. Download offline maps

For navigation even without a connection

The highest peaks offer breathtaking views, but often the internet abandons you right at the best of times.

That’s why Mountain Maps allows you to download offline maps for free before your departure.

When you are in the mountains and the signal disappears, the map automatically activates, so you can continue to follow the route without any worries. No more fear of getting lost, just the pleasure of hiking.

5. Import or export .gpx tracks

Do you already have a .gpx track of your route? Import it into Mountain Maps to have everything at your fingertips directly in the app.

Just click on the profile icon on the top right, scroll down to the “Imported routes” section, and select ‘Upload route’. In a few seconds, you will have your route ready to view and navigate.
